Iron-on transfers

Iron-on vinyl in matte, neon, glitter or metallic

Names, words, numbers and ready-made designs, cut from heat-transfer vinyl: a thin coloured film with a heat-activated glue on the back. I cut each one to order, pick out the spare vinyl by hand and post it flat, ready to iron on at home.

Rather not iron it yourself? Choose a T-shirt or hoodie and I'll press it on for you. I make personalised gifts too: mugs, ornaments, cushions and more.

The look

Matte, neon, glitter or metallic?

Matte is the everyday favourite and copes with the smallest letters. Neon shouts, glitter sparkles, metallic catches the light.

In the envelope

Everything you need, bar the iron

  • 1Your design, already cut, with the spare vinyl picked out
  • 2Held on a clear plastic sheet, so every letter stays in place
  • 3Posted flat in a stiff envelope, so it doesn't crease
  • 4A printed card with the same ironing and washing steps you see below

At home

On in about two minutes

Your iron and a sheet of baking paper are all it takes.

1
Set the iron

Cotton or linen setting, steam off. Work on a hard, flat surface like a worktop, not an ironing board.

2
Warm the fabric

Iron the spot for 10-15 seconds to smooth out any creases.

3
Place the transfer

Clear plastic side up, exactly where you want it.

4
Cover it

Lay the baking paper over the top.

5
Press

Press down firmly for 15-20 seconds. Don't slide the iron, and don't overdo the heat.

6
Cool and peel

Wait 5-10 seconds, then peel the plastic away slowly from one corner.

One last press: put the baking paper back and press for 5 seconds. It gives a smoother finish that lasts longer.

Before you buy

Will it work on my top?

Check the care label first

A crossed-out iron on the label, or sportswear with a coated or very stretchy finish, means the transfer won't stay on. This is what that looks like:

CrinkledUsually too much heat, or the iron slid while pressing.
Did not stickUsually the iron was not pressed down hard enough, or it was done on a soft ironing board.
Came off in the washUsually washed too soon, or it went on a coated or very stretchy top.

In every order

A little heart to try first

  1. Look at the care label: an iron symbol is fine, a crossed-out iron is not.
  2. Iron the small test heart onto a hidden spot, like the inside of a hem.
  3. Happy with it? Put the real transfer on.

If it goes on a fabric to skip, or the steps aren't followed, that isn't a fault in the transfer. If the transfer itself is faulty, I'll put it right. This doesn't affect your legal rights. Returns and refunds

Questions

Good to know before you order

Which finish should I choose?

Classic Matte suits most things, including small letters and fine script. Neon is for names that need to be read from a distance, glitter for bold letters that sparkle, and metallic for a mirror-like shine.

Do I need a heat press?

No. A household iron does the job. If you have a press, the settings for each finish are in the materials guide above.

Can you press it onto a T-shirt for me?

Yes. Choose a T-shirt or a hoodie with your design, and I press it on before I post it.

I spotted a typo after ordering. Can you fix it?

Email me straight away at info@denmary.co.uk. If I haven't cut it yet, I'll change it. Orders often go to the cutter within minutes, so the sooner the better.

It didn't stick, or the edges lifted in the wash. What now?

It doesn't happen often, and a second press usually fixes it. If it didn't stick, cover it with baking paper and press firmly for 15-20 seconds on a hard surface. If the edges lifted after washing, cover it and press for 5 seconds. Still not holding? Send me a photo of the transfer and the care label, and if the transfer is at fault, I'll send you a new one or refund you, whichever you prefer.

Can I iron it onto something that isn't clothing?

Yes, as long as it's cotton, polyester or poly-cotton and it can be ironed. Tote bags, aprons and cushion covers all work.
